In a recent US survey, Skateboarding is so popular and was found to be the 3rd most popular sport with teenagers next to football and basketball. A lot of people stereotyped that skateboarding will attract bad people or bad things. They are more concerned about the punk, raw, angry side of skateboarding. But the truth is that skateboarding by itself is a very good influence. It’ll keep skaters active, teaches them to set and achieve goals and challenges them.
Skaters having tattoos are form of self expression. Some might misunderstood them because of the stigma it brings but getting tattoo nowadays is a typical form of body art for skaters. It’s their way of expressing freedom and showing people how they feel while they skate.
In fact, skateboarding is only as bad of an influence as you want it to be. There are plenty of good quality people and professional skateboarders out there who would make an excellent role model whether they wear tattoos or not.
There’s Tony Hawk, a family man who donates money to charity; Rodney Mullen, a friendly guy with master’s degree; Bob Burnquist, who uses his position to help the environment; Jereme Rogers, who looks like an angry punk skater with a shaved head. His “bling” and tattoos maybe misleading, but when you take a closer look with his tattoos, they are all about his faith.
And during an interview, he keeps talking about God giving him the skill to skate so that he could tell and show the world about God’s love. He’s well known for his spirited skate style as well as his spiritual beliefs throughout the skating community.
Jereme Rogers is adored by kids around the world because he is well-mannered, well-spoken, close to God and his family. He actually maintains one of the cleanest images and a good role model in skating industry. He is a guy with tattoos but has the cleanest image.
If you’ve raised your kids well with good values, they shouldn’t drift too far from what you have taught them when they get older. If they’ve decided to have tattoos on their bodies at the right age, it doesn’t mean that they’ve become wild or fall on the wrong crowd. They have their own reason for getting tattoos and the reasons are not always bad, because having tattoo is just a form of body art and self expression. If you’re a skater reading this, just be careful with skater friends you hang with and be responsible for making your own good choices.
